My Purpose

I want to use this blog as a journal where I can list my goals and track how I achieve them.  I see the purpose of this blog as motivational, accountable and experimental.

The word motivational means 'to stimulate interest in' and one of the meanings of its root word motive means 'what induces a person to act whether it be desire, fear or circumstance'. For instance, I have a desire to be slimmer and regain my physical fitness.  Circumstances ( a stressful year, the onset of menopause and becoming bored with my previous work out) have meant that I have let myself go.  My fear is that there will be a loss of my health an well-being. These combined motivate me to want to change.

To achieve a goal it seems to me that it is helpful to be accountable to someone.  It is certainly that way in the work world.  Achieving my goals is a personal pursuit and so the only person that I really need to be accountable to is myself.  I think it will be good to have a place to do that.  Any journal would work but trying something new appealed to me and if anyone decides to follow this and perhaps support me that would help as well.

I think of this blog as experimental because I think it will be interesting to see if blogging helps me to succeed in achieving my goals.

"To gain respect, begin by respecting yourself. Live up to your word. Do not, under any circumstances, go against that in which you believe. Do not exploit others. And, most importantly, start to love, wishing good and success to everyone you meet."
~Thomas D. Willhite~

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
~Mark Twain~
